Compassion Connection

Eight years ago, Cheryl, a volunteer and liaison to Compassion Network from St. Paul United Methodist church responded to a need.

Compassion Network received a request from an elderly lady named Pilar, who requested help that placing her garbage can out on the street on Wednesday nights.  Pilar was unable to do so herself as she was wheelchair bound. She had lost contact with any family members and lived alone without internet access. Cheryl discovered that Pilar lived in her neighborhood, and she began helping.

Cheryl made a connection with Pilar and continued to keep in touch. Throughout the years, their relationship continued to develop. Cheryl was able to locate Pilar’s family through Facebook and reconnect her with her nephew.

On October 1st of this year, at the age of 80, Pilar passed away. As recently as September 29, Cheryl was able to be with Pilar, praying with her and assuring her that the Lord was with her. Throughout the eight years, Cheryl maintained a friendship that would not have been possible without the connection made through Compassion Network.
