Gary’s story

This is Gary Mendenhall and I am sending you this email in an attempt to express my heartfelt gratitude and to let you know how grateful I am for the service provided to me from Compassion Network.  I find it difficult to gather together the words to show my appreciation.  My heartfelt thanks to you Jerry, and to Steve Patchin, and to the wonderful volunteer Phil Spitz who did a remarkable job of taking care of my needs.  Phil was so polite and friendly and he just made me feel so at ease; such a kind and compassionate man.  I feel truly blessed.

Up until about one and a half years ago I was always autonomous and self sufficient and I always found it difficult to ask for help but after three major surgeries  last year and my deteriorating health I was at a loss at how I was going to be able to take care of some basic needs.  I started praying for help and guidance with my circumstances and eventually I was led to Compassion Network and you Jerry.  The help from Compassion Network got the ball rolling and as a boots on the ground Vietnam Veteran (1968-1969) I am applying for and will likely receive some funding from the VA’s Aid and Attendance program which will help me to afford recurring in home house cleaning maybe once per week. I was so despondent and depressed about my situation before connecting with Mandie from the Fremont Human Services Department which eventually led me to Compassion Network. I’m so grateful.  God does answer prayers.

Jerry, I am on a fixed income and I can’t afford to offer a lot but I am going to give from my grateful heart a donation to Compassion Network.  I couldn’t think of a more deserving organization.
